SPACE &
AEROSPACE

Two solutions for one of the most failure-intolerant industries on Earth: autonomous sub-surface inspection of satellite and composite structures, and standoff detection of gas, leaks, and emissions — without disassembly, ionizing radiation, or production stoppage.

NORBLIS mid-infrared aviation inspection
Contact Required None Through-coating CFRP inspection · No disassembly · No ionizing radiation
// Why mid-IR for aerospace

Mid-infrared light penetrates paint, primers, and protective coatings to resolve delamination, voids, and disbonds within CFRP airframe panels and bonded joints — without removal, without disassembly, and without ionizing radiation. The same measurement resolves thermal barrier coating thickness on turbine blades before field failure reaches a depot event.

Overview · Solutions 1 & 2

Space & aerospace gets two NORBLIS solutions. Surface Inspection — robot- and probe-mounted mid-IR OCT resolves sub-surface structure in satellite panels, CFRP airframes, and thermal barrier coatings in real time, with no contact, no ionizing radiation, and no cleanroom disruption. Detection & Monitoring — broadband mid-IR lasers add standoff sensing of fuel and propellant leaks, outgassing, and emissions, sharing the same monitoring and alarming software layer.

WHERE WE OPERATE

Commercial Aircraft

Through-coating inspection of CFRP fuselage panels, wing skins, and horizontal stabilizers. Resolves sub-surface disbonds, delamination, and moisture ingress in bonded joints — in the hangar, without disassembly or ionizing radiation, compliant with MRO inspection intervals and AOG timelines.

01

Satellites & Space Structures

Sub-surface inspection of composite satellite panels, solar array substrates, and bonded bracket joints before integration. Maps adhesive layer uniformity, locates voids in honeycomb core, and verifies repair patches — without cleanroom disruption or ionizing radiation hazards near sensitive electronics.

02

UAV & Drone Structures

Structural integrity scanning of composite UAV airframes and propeller blades after mission cycles. Detects impact damage, fatigue delamination, and skin-to-spar disbonds before they propagate — robot-mountable for automated post-mission inspection without manual disassembly.

03

Engine & Turbine Coatings

Layer-by-layer depth profiling of thermal barrier coatings on high-pressure turbine blades and combustor liners. Resolves TBC thickness variation, sub-surface cracking, and bond coat oxidation in real time — at production speed, before coating failures reach engine shop visits.

04
Sub-Surface Non-contact inspection through paint, primer, and protective coatings
Zero Disassembly required — fiber probe fits existing MRO workflows
CFRP-ready Resolves delamination, disbonds, and voids in composite structures

INSPECT CFRP AIRFRAMES WITHOUT DISASSEMBLY

The NORBLIS fiber probe scans through paint and primer without contact — resolving delamination, moisture ingress, and disbond zones in CFRP wing skins, fuselage panels, and bonded joints. No X-ray, no gel, no removal from service.

THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS — BEFORE THEY FAIL

Mid-IR OCT resolves TBC thickness variation and sub-surface cracking in turbine blade coatings at production speed — detecting bond coat oxidation zones before they propagate to spallation. Inline measurement at the coating line, before the blade reaches engine assembly.
